B2B payments hits the ground running in 2025

This year has already seen a wave of new launches in the B2B payments space as companies continue to tap into this global opportunity. Here are some of the biggest developments we’ve seen in January.

Real-time payments infrastructure is enabling faster cross-border transactions for businesses for which speed, cost and transparency have all been pain points. A new partnership between UAE-based LuLu Financial Holdings and global liquidity platform Arf reflects this trend, with the latter boosting LuLu’s financial services with the addition of instant settlement capabilities.

Several B2B developments have a focus on the APAC region, where a huge opportunity for cross-border exists but payments systems are often fragmented. Indian global payments company BriskPe has launched a new payments platform for micro, small and medium enterprises (MSMEs), which it claims are key to India reaching a $2tn export target by 2030 but who often fall foul of cross-border payments challenges that restrict their ability to scale.

Similarly, Singapore-based Sunrate has unveiled a suite of new forex and hedging solutions for businesses, tapping into a need to protect global businesses from market volatility. We spoke to Sunrate CEO Paul Meng about the emerging B2B opportunities in Southeast Asia last year. Meanwhile, Singapore and US-based Nium has boosted the reach of its B2B virtual card solution, which allows online travel agents to instantly pay airlines and suppliers.

Beyond payments launches, several companies in the B2B space have also seen some switch-ups in senior leadership in early 2025 – including Wise Platform (Wise’s B2B2X offering), which has selected new senior leaders for its divisions in North America as well as Europe, the Middle East and Brazil. After a year in which we’ve seen several cross-border players – Flywire, OFX and Wise, to name a few – grow their B2B offering, will other players follow suit in 2025?
